When Bonnet returned, he did find his ship, but all of the treasure and plunder was gone and so was Blackbeard and the rest of the crew. Bonnet had been tricked. Furious, Bonnet reorganized with a new crew and set out to seek revenge on Blackbeard.

Bonnet had learned a few things from his time with Blackbeard. He managed to assault and plunder a few more ships as he was looking for Blackbeard. He threatened civilians and captured prisoners. He tried to get paid ransom for his captives, but had very little success. In anger and frustration, he began killing and torturing the sailors on the ships he captured. He was always looking for information about Blackbeard, but Bonnet never found him. Instead pirate hunter Colonel William Rhett found Bonnet.

There was a fierce battle between the two ships. Bonnet declared he would blow himself up and his ship before he would ever surrender. But, as in the past, Bonnet’s crew didn’t follow their captain. Instead they gave up the ship, and Bonnet was captured with his men.

During the trial, Bonnet begged for forgiveness and mercy from the court and tried to blame everything on Blackbeard. It didn’t work. Bonnet and 30 of his crew were convicted of piracy and hanged. It was a rotten end for a really rotten pirate.
